Two art patrons engage their collection and urban living in this art-filled pied-à-terre

This two-bedroom flat with striking Bay views serves as a backdrop for passionate art collectors to live with their art and engage in city life. Focusing on female and primarily non-western artists, the owners’ powerful collection has a distinct purpose and point of view and includes work by Asuka Anastacia Ogawa, Firelei Báez, Monir Farmanfarmaian, Diana Al-Hadid and others.

Collaborating with Studio Collins Weir, the clients chose to simplify the interior of their apartment, transforming a maze of small rooms into a flowing space that showcases their collection and highlights the sweeping views of the Bay.

The interior is grounded by three black walnut pillars of cabinetry, located in the kitchen, primary bedroom and guest room. The expansive white walls sweep around these built-ins, which are detailed to give the impression of a floating or suspended ceiling that fades away. Soothing greens and blues punctuate the minimal spaces as well as refined fabrics and upholstery in luxurious mohair, rich leather and soft wools, an all-silk rug by Mark Nelson in the family room and a table made of Irish Connemara marble by Mathieu Lehanneur in the living room.

Custom furniture by Studio Collins Weir supports the client’s vision including the bespoke coffee table and stunning dining table made from a hand-carved monumental ash slab. The slab seems to hover above the mirror polish stainless steel legs, and its rounded corners encourage the flow of guests for owners who enjoy entertaining.
