BASE TABLE

Architecture becomes furniture with this dining table by Studio Collins Weir. The design investigates the idea of using furnishings to define space and movement within a room. The gaps in the metal base draw the eye through the piece as if walking through a doorway. The bevel of the bleached oak tabletop expresses the nature of solid wood as opposed to veneer, maximizing its visual potential. Marks of the hand can be seen throughout, for example  in the hand-applied and -worked pewter finish on the base.

  • As an extension of its design practice, Studio Collins Weir is lauded for its finely crafted and honed custom furnishings with the division headed by studio principal Chris Weir.

The studio’s approach to interiors, with its careful sense of layering, textures and materials, extends to bespoke furnishings that are always designed for a client’s particular need or desire. These pieces exhibit a respect for the experience of place and the intimacy of materiality that the studio’s interior design also provides.
